Do you really have to fight for your right to party?

Romans 12:17-21
Don't hit back; discover beauty in everyone. If you've got it in you, get along with everybody. Don't insist on getting even; that's not for you to do. "I'll do the judging," says God. "I'll take care of it."

Our Scriptures tell us that if you see your enemy hungry, go buy that person lunch, or if he's thirsty, get him a drink. Your generosity will surprise him with goodness. Don't let evil get the best of you; get the best of evil by doing good.

Go to the people.
Live among them.

Lift them up.
Spread some joy.
Be a fire-starter.
Get dirty.
Have fun.
Love them like Jesus would love them.

Trust steadily in God, hope unswervingly, love extravagantly. And the best of the three is love.

Be A Boredom Killer

‘Life is tough. It takes up much of your time, all of your weekends and what do you get at the end of it? I think the lifecycle is all backward. You should die first, get that out of the way. Then you should live twenty years in an old age home.

You get kicked out when you’re too young. You get a gold watch, you go to work. You work for forty years until you’re young enough to enjoy your retirement. You go to college, you party until you’re ready for high school. You go to primary school, you become a little kid, you play, you have no responsibilities.

Even though on the outside it often looks like things are falling apart on us, on the inside, where God is making new life, not a day goes by without his unfolding grace. These hard times are small potatoes compared to the coming good times, the lavish celebration prepared for us. There's far more here than meets the eye. The things we see now are here today, gone tomorrow. But the things we can't see now will last forever.

The Divine Life is for those who die to the demands of the ego.
Such people will inhabit the Kingdom of Heaven.

The Divine Life is for those who have lived through tragedy and suffering. Such people will be comforted at a deep level.

The Divine Life is for those who bring their passions under control for goodness. It is such people that will inherit the earth.

The Divine Life is for those who hunger and thirst for justice.
Such people will be fed to the full.

The Divine Life is offered to those who are gracious and merciful.
Such people will be treated in a merciful and gracious manner.

The Divine Life is offered to those whose Home is clean on the inside. Such people will know the very presence of God and see his face.

The Divine Life is offered to those who are Makers and Creators of Peace. Such people will be called the children of God.

The Divine Life is known by those who are persecuted for seeking Justice. Such people will know what it means to live in the Kingdom of Heaven.

The Divine Life is known by those who are mistreated and misunderstood in their passion for justice. They will inherit the Kingdom of Heaven. The prophets were treated this way in the past.

Let us live out the ancient call

We pour our lives into others,

Our families.
Our friends.
Our neighbors.

God seeks to be with us still in the routine of our lives. At work, with family, and in your normalcy today, you are on mission. You are God's priest to offer a living sacrifice. To invest dignity, grace, and love. Be alert to your high calling!

This is a world where holy ground looks like hard wood floors; where the sun rises, and sets; where we eat three meals a day; we work hard; we play hard; we laugh and we suffer. This is a world where communion, the Eucharist, is a ritual…a beautiful ritual called life. Life where we are reminded in every moment that we have been given to each other by God, in Jesus the Son and through the power of the Holy Spirit.

Colossians 3:12-17
So, chosen by God for this new life of love, dress in the wardrobe God picked out for you: compassion, kindness, humility, quiet strength, discipline. Be even-tempered, content with second place, quick to forgive an offense. Forgive as quickly and completely as the Master forgave you. And regardless of what else you put on, wear love. It's your basic, all-purpose garment. Never be without it.

Let the peace of Christ keep you in tune with each other, in step with each other. None of this going off and doing your own thing. And cultivate thankfulness. Let the Word of Christ—the Message—have the run of the house. Give it plenty of room in your lives. Instruct and direct one another using good common sense. And sing, sing your hearts out to God! Let every detail in your lives—words, actions, whatever—be done in the name of the Master, Jesus, thanking God the Father every step of the way.

Do you know how to grow healthy relationships in your neighborhood?

Honesty. Friendship. Respect. Caring. Trust. Acceptance. Intimacy. Love.

Love from the center of who you are; don't fake it. Run for dear life from evil; hold on for dear life to good. Be good friends who love deeply; practice playing second fiddle.

Don't burn out; keep yourselves fueled and aflame. Be alert servants of the Master, cheerfully expectant. Don't quit in hard times; pray all the harder. Help needy Christians; be inventive in hospitality.

Bless your enemies; no cursing under your breath. Laugh with your happy friends when they're happy; share tears when they're down. Get along with each other; don't be stuck-up. Make friends with nobodies; don't be the great somebody.

Bring it to life


It's all about life in your neighborhood. Are you willing to roll up your sleeves & get involved in people's lives?

John 1
The Word was first,
the Word present to God,
God present to the Word.
The Word was God,
in readiness for God from day one.

Everything was created through him;
nothing—not one thing!—
came into being without him.
What came into existence was Life,
and the Life was Light to live by.
The Life-Light blazed out of the darkness;
the darkness couldn't put it out.

There once was a man, his name John, sent by God to point out the way to the Life-Light. He came to show everyone where to look, who to believe in. John was not himself the Light; he was there to show the way to the Light.

The Word became flesh and blood,
and moved into the neighborhood.
We saw the glory with our own eyes,
the one-of-a-kind glory,
like Father, like Son,
Generous inside and out,
true from start to finish.

John pointed him out and called, "This is the One! The One I told you was coming after me but in fact was ahead of me. He has always been ahead of me, has always had the first word."

We all live off his generous bounty,
gift after gift after gift.
We got the basics from Moses,
and then this exuberant giving and receiving,
This endless knowing and understanding—
all this came through Jesus, the Messiah.
No one has ever seen God,
not so much as a glimpse.
This one-of-a-kind God-Expression,
who exists at the very heart of the Father,
has made him plain as day.

Pull over...

Time for a spiritual check-up...

Romans 6:18-25
I realize that I don't have what it takes. I can will it, but I can't do it. I decide to do good, but I don't really do it; I decide not to do bad, but then I do it anyway. My decisions, such as they are, don't result in actions. Something has gone wrong deep within me and gets the better of me every time.

It happens so regularly that it's predictable. The moment I decide to do good, sin is there to trip me up. I truly delight in God's commands, but it's pretty obvious that not all of me joins in that delight. Parts of me covertly rebel, and just when I least expect it, they take charge.

I've tried everything and nothing helps. I'm at the end of my rope. Is there no one who can do anything for me? Isn't that the real question?

The answer, thank God, is that Jesus Christ can and does. He acted to set things right in this life of contradictions where I want to serve God with all my heart and mind, but am pulled by the influence of sin to do something totally different.

That's a thing that I keep In the back of my head...

1 John 4:17-21
God is love. When we take up permanent residence in a life of love, we live in God and God lives in us. This way, love has the run of the house, becomes at home and mature in us, so that we're free of worry on Judgment Day—our standing in the world is identical with Christ's. There is no room in love for fear. Well-formed love banishes fear. Since fear is crippling, a fearful life—fear of death, fear of judgment—is one not yet fully formed in love.

We, though, are going to love—love and be loved. First we were loved, now we love. He loved us first.

If anyone boasts, "I love God," and goes right on hating his brother or sister, thinking nothing of it, he is a liar. If he won't love the person he can see, how can he love the God he can't see? The command we have from Christ is blunt: Loving God includes loving people. You've got to love both.

A devout life does bring wealth, but it's the rich simplicity of being yourself before God. Since we entered the world penniless and will leave it penniless, if we have bread on the table and shoes on our feet, that's enough.

But if it's only money these leaders are after, they'll self-destruct in no time. Lust for money brings trouble and nothing but trouble. Going down that path, some lose their footing in the faith completely and live to regret it bitterly ever after.

Our Contempt Of Weakness

The world rewards strength, power, success & victory. It despises weakness, failure & impotence.

Very likely you already have or soon will fall into the very same trap. Been there done that. Way TOO many times myself.

We think the final solution is to appear invincible & to crush the weak (after all, they deserve it, right?!)

There is another way. A better way.

Embrace your weakness.

Accept yourself, frailties & all, God already has. It's the only path worth walking on...

The fruit of self-knowledge is kindness. Broken ourselves, we bind tenderly the wounds of the other.
